Program Introduction
.....At
the Mt. Mourne VFD we have established a program in
order to assist youth interested in entering the fire
profession. This program is referred to as the Explorer
program and was established back in the early 1980's
through the Boy Scouts of America as means to provide
the youth a jump start in firefighting training.
.....An
Explorer is defined as any person who is between the
ages of 15 through 18 with an active interest in the
fire service as well as community involvement. During
their time spent as an Explorer they will be
learning the basics of firefighting as well as
developing character, discipline, and teamwork. |
 |
|
Training will be divided between both
classroom lessons and hands on training. The classroom
lessons will involve learning basic fire terms, fire
behavior, and standard operating procedures. Some of the
hands on training will involve learning and memorizing
the different trucks and there role in the fire service
as well the basic tools and there operation, the
operation of the SCBA air pack, and the proper usage of
protective firefighting clothing. This is just a brief
overview of what will be taught and learned during the
Explorer training process. |
